The Research Scientist will join Innovations for Poverty Action’s Applied Research & Methods (ARM) team, which designs and oversees technical research for IPA’s global initiatives, with a strong emphasis on randomized controlled trials (RCTs), quasi-experimental impact evaluations, and survey methodology. This position will focus on health-related research and will collaborate closely with IPA’s country offices and advisory units to enhance monitoring, evaluation, and learning efforts. The role involves designing and leading coverage surveys and program audits for a major infectious disease prevention initiative in Sub-Saharan Africa, integrating expertise in survey methodology, health systems, and field research management to produce rigorous, timely evidence for program partners and funders. The Research Scientist will provide intellectual leadership for coverage surveys, data audits, and impact evaluations—particularly those centered on malaria prevention interventions—while also contributing to broader health policies and programs across Sub-Saharan Africa. Additionally, the role will involve developing, securing funding for, and executing a research agenda focused on high-impact health interventions and strategies aimed at improving the well-being of individuals in low- and middle-income countries. Survey Design and Technical Leadership Design survey protocols and audit methodologies, including sampling frameworks, questionnaire development, and quality assurance measures. Serve as the principal investigator for evaluations, surveys, data audits, and efforts to extract, validate, and interpret health facility-level data. Provide technical guidance on health systems in Nigeria and other West African nations, including insights into facility operations and data quality challenges. Partner Engagement and Reporting Collaborate with the Survey Delivery Unit to refine data collection platforms, field protocols, and quality control procedures. Cultivate relationships with government health partners and program stakeholders to facilitate access and support for data collection. Contribute to the analysis and reporting of survey and audit findings for program partners and funders. Team Supervision and Research Development Supervise and mentor field research staff, including enumerators, field coordinators, and research associates. Develop proposals for new research, including study designs, budgets, and narratives tailored to funders. Conduct technical reviews of proposals for new research studies to ensure methodological rigor. Qualifications

  • Never pay any amount of money — for a file, a training, a uniform, or an interview. A real employer never asks the candidate to pay.
  • Never send a photo of your ID card, passport, or banking details before you have physically verified the employer exists.
  • Always meet in a public place, during the day — never an isolated address, a private home, or a location you cannot verify in advance.
  • Tell a relative or friend exactly where you are going, with whom, and at what time — and share your live location if possible.
  • Search the company name online before going: a real business has a trace (website, reviews, other employees, an official address).
  • A salary that is far above the market rate for the position and the city is a red flag — be extra cautious.
