Job Description Position Title: Project Assistant – Gender and Nutrition Reports To: Project Officer – Direct Supervises: None Division: Church World Service Africa Department: Humanitarian & Development Team: Tanzania Job Location: Makere, Tanzania Grade Level: Job grade 3, National Introduction : Church World Service (CWS) is a faith-based, not-for-profit organization dedicated to empowering communities worldwide by implementing equitable and sustainable solutions to address hunger, poverty, displacement, and disaster. Primary Purpose Reporting directly to the Project Officer, the Project Assistant – Gender and Nutrition is responsible for facilitating on-the-ground execution of the KEESHA Project in Maker, Tanzania, with consistent field presence across the project’s operational zones. The position is centered on advancing gender equality and enhancing nutrition outcomes by mobilizing communities, engaging beneficiaries, carrying out gender- and nutrition-sensitive interventions, conducting regular monitoring, maintaining precise records, and submitting timely reports. Key Relationships The Project Assistant will collaborate seamlessly with both internal teams and external partners to facilitate streamlined coordination and successful execution of project initiatives. All relevant CWS Africa staff External Community stakeholders, including local residents, municipal officials, agricultural extension personnel, and collaborating partners, actively participate in the initiative. Working Environment The role is predominantly field-based, necessitating frequent travel throughout the designated project region. Responsibilities Project Implementation , Community Mobilization and Beneficiary Engagement (40%) Support the execution of gender- and nutrition-sensitive project activities by assisting in their planning, coordination, and implementation, strictly in accordance with approved work plans. Conduct community mobilization initiatives, facilitate awareness sessions, and perform household follow-up visits to enhance participation, ensure inclusion, and advance project objectives. Conduct and oversee training sessions, community discussions, and beneficiary participation initiatives to ensure effective knowledge sharing and engagement. Promote inclusive engagement by ensuring the active involvement of women, youth, persons with disabilities, and other marginalized groups within all project activities. Gender and Nutrition Programming (25%) Advocate for the advancement of gender equality while fostering nutrition education, dietary variety, and constructive behavior modification within the specified communities. Provide assistance in executing and promoting Social and Behavior Change (SBC) interventions and their associated materials. Offer ongoing assistance to embed gender equality, protection measures, nutrition education, and social and behavior change methodologies into all aspects of project implementation. Identify and systematically document challenges, effective practices, and key insights related to gender and nutrition. Monitoring, Reporting and Data Management (15%) Collect, validate, and update precise project and beneficiary records, ensuring inclusion of critical details such as age, gender, and vulnerability-disaggregated data. Maintain accurate and current project documentation, activity logs, and attendance records to ensure comprehensive and reliable information is readily available. Support routine monitoring activities and assessments, and assist in compiling project reports and success stories. Ensure that all field reports and documentation are submitted promptly and in adherence to established deadlines. Coordination and Stakeholder Engagement (10%) Collaborate with community leaders, refugee organizations, governmental counterparts, and other relevant stakeholders to facilitate the smooth execution of projects. To ensure clarity and alignment, you will convey project goals, actions, and feedback processes to beneficiaries and stakeholders. Professionally represent CWS in field engagements and coordination meetings as assigned. Administrative and Operational Support (5%) Assist with the coordination and logistical arrangements for training sessions, meetings, workshops, and other project-related events. Assist with inventory management, monitor project material usage, and maintain organized project documentation to ensure accuracy and efficiency throughout project phases. Offer comprehensive administrative and logistical assistance to facilitate project field operations. Additional Responsibilities and Compliance (5%) Adhere to all established organizational policies, maintain stringent safeguarding standards, and uphold the prescribed code of conduct. Ensure the secure and appropriate utilization of project assets and resources at all times. Execute all additional responsibilities as reasonably directed by the supervisor. Qualifications Experience: A minimum of two years of hands-on professional experience in community-driven initiatives focused on gender equality, nutrition, public health, agriculture, humanitarian aid, development, or refugee response is required. Experienced professionals should possess a proven track record of collaborating with various community-based entities, including refugee and host community structures, agricultural cooperatives, women’s associations, youth organizations, or program beneficiaries. Facilitating training sessions, mentoring programs, or community engagement initiatives in a prior role would be considered a beneficial asset. Skills: Demonstrates exceptional ability in communication, facilitation, and fostering community engagement. Demonstrated proficiency in gathering, organizing, and presenting data with precision and reliability is essential. Demonstrates exceptional organizational capabilities and thrives in autonomous work environments. Demonstrates strong adaptability to dynamic environments, particularly in remote settings, while efficiently managing shifting priorities and demands. - Demonstrates fluency in both English and Kiswahili, coupled with strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. Education & Certification: A Bachelor’s degree in Gender Studies, Nutrition, Public Health, Community Development, Sociology, Agriculture, Social Sciences, or a closely related field with a focus on gender, nutrition, humanitarian efforts, or community-based programming is required. Experienced professionals with a minimum of two years in community-based initiatives are sought, ideally within humanitarian, development, refugee support, gender equality, nutrition, public health, or food security sectors. Special Requirements We are seeking a full-time, on-site professional role situated in Maker, Tanzania, with periodic travel to designated project implementation locations as necessary. Proficient in applying humanitarian principles, including gender-sensitive approaches, safeguarding protocols, accountability to affected populations, and nutrition-sensitive strategies. Demonstrates proficiency in organizing and coordinating logistics for training sessions, workshops, field excursions, and community gatherings. Proficient in maintaining accurate records, tracking materials, and reconciling usage for training sessions, community initiatives, and field deployments. Proficiency in digital data collection platforms like Kobe Toolbox and OK constitutes an additional asset.
