About the role: Our client is looking for an experienced Drilling Foreman to oversee and manage all drilling operations at the mine site. The role involves ensuring that drilling activities are conducted safely, efficiently, and in line with production goals, geological specifications, company protocols, and regulatory standards. Candidates should possess a minimum of 10 to 15 years of hands-on drilling experience, with a proven track record in supervising drilling teams and operating or managing drilling equipment in open-pit or mining settings. Maintain precise documentation of drilling activities, production metrics, shift performance, and equipment utilization logs. Ensure adherence to established company safety protocols, mining regulations, and environmental mandates. Deliver safety-focused discussions, including toolbox talks, pre-shift meetings, and safety briefings, on a regular basis. Identify operational hazards and oversee the implementation of suitable control measures to mitigate risks effectively. Conduct investigations into incidents, near misses, and equipment damage, as well as review unsafe practices when necessary. Provide guidance, instruction, and mentorship to drill operators and junior staff members to enhance their skills and performance. Evaluate employee performance regularly and verify adherence to established company policies and procedures. Ensure high standards of cleanliness and environmental stewardship are upheld in drilling operations areas. Conduct drilling operations with meticulous attention to preserving the structural integrity of highballs, benches, underground workings, utilities, and other critical mine infrastructure. Engage in ongoing enhancement projects focused on boosting drilling efficiency, minimizing expenses, and elevating the quality of drill holes. Minimum Requirements: Earned qualification in a technical discipline such as Drilling, Mining, Mechanical Engineering, or an equivalent field. A minimum of 10 to 15 years of hands-on drilling experience is required, with a strong preference for candidates with a background in the mining sector. Demonstrated expertise in a leadership capacity within drilling operations, specifically as a Drilling Foreman, Senior Drill Operator, or an equivalent supervisory position, is essential. Extensive experience in overseeing drilling crews and drill operators. Professional Experience: Proven track record in open-pit mining operations. Demonstrates extensive expertise in various aspects of drilling operations, such as drilling patterns, hole depths, angles, diameters, and precise positioning. Proficient understanding of drilling machinery, associated tooling, drill rods, drill bits, lubricants, and other consumables is required. Conduct or supervise thorough pre-start inspections with a keen eye for identifying equipment defects. Proficient in mine safety standards, mining regulations, environmental requirements, and hazard mitigation strategies. Demonstrated ability to lead toolbox talks, pre-shift meetings, and safety briefings effectively. Proficient in accurately documenting drilling activities, production metrics, shift logs, and equipment utilization data. Proven leadership abilities are essential for guiding, instructing, and developing drill operators and junior personnel through effective training, coaching, and mentorship. Skilled in fostering clear communication and seamless coordination, especially when collaborating with Mining, Blasting, Maintenance, and Survey teams. Capable of tracking production targets, evaluating drill performance, measuring equipment utilization, and analyzing downtime. Proven expertise in problem resolution and system diagnostics. Demonstrates strong performance under tight deadlines while consistently achieving established production goals. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) The Drilling Foreman will be evaluated on, among other criteria, the following key performance indicators: Drilling is measured in meters per shift and per month. Ensuring adherence to prescribed drilling patterns and precise hole specifications is essential. Drill availability and utilization. Enhancing drilling efficiency and optimizing penetration rates are key objectives. Cost per metre drilled. Equipment downtime. Drill-hole quality and accuracy. Ensure strict adherence to all established safety standards and operational procedures at all times. Reporting and analyzing the frequency and impact of incidents and near misses are critical responsibilities. This includes tracking their occurrence and assessing their severity to identify trends and implement preventive measures. The role requires a keen attention to detail to ensure accurate documentation and thorough evaluation of each event. To optimize the allocation and productivity of labor, equipment, and consumables. Operational reporting accuracy and quality are essential to ensure reliable data-driven decision-making across all business functions. This role requires meticulous attention to detail to maintain high standards in reporting processes, ensuring all data is precise, consistent, and delivered in a timely manner.
