The successful candidate will be responsible for driving the Business Unit IT strategy and roadmap, ensuring strong governance through the BU IT Council, and delivering reliable, secure and business-aligned IT services within agreed resources, requirements, timelines and budgets.

About the Role:

The IT Manager will act as a key business partner to the Management Team, regional IT leadership, dealers, suppliers and internal stakeholders. The role requires a leader who can align IT strategy with business priorities, manage IT performance and risks, lead people effectively, support digitalisation and innovation, and ensure compliance with Scania principles, standards, policies and governance requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

Define, implement and continuously develop the Business Unit IT strategy and roadmap in line with business needs and regional IT direction.

Work closely with the Business Unit Management Team and managers to understand business requirements and advise on how IT can improve performance and create value.

Lead, motivate and develop the IT team, ensuring the right structure, resources, competence and performance follow-up are in place.

Convene and lead BU IT Council meetings and ensure effective governance, communication and decision-making.

Manage relationships with Scania IT, regional IT leadership, suppliers, dealers, customers where applicable, and key internal functions including services, sales and parts.

Oversee IT security, information security controls, disaster recovery, back-up procedures, IT audits and risk management actions.

Prepare and manage the BU IT budget, including forecasting, expenditure planning, variance analysis, corrective actions and supplier service level agreements.

Promote innovation, digitalisation and continuous improvement, ensuring best practices are documented and shared across the organisation.

Ensure work is carried out in accordance with Scania principles, standards, policies, the Scania Way, SHE requirements and applicable IT governance frameworks.

Qualifications and Background:

Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Informatics, Management Information Systems or a related field.

Master’s degree, such as an MBA or a master’s in Information Systems, is strongly preferred for candidates expected to operate in a strategic, cross-functional environment.

7–10+ years of progressive IT or digital experience, including at least 3–5 years in a leadership, managerial or project management capacity.

Experience managing distributed, multi-regional teams, enterprise-wide transformation programmes or complex business technology initiatives.

Relevant certifications are highly valued, including PMP, PRINCE2, Agile/Scrum Master, SAFe, ITIL 4, TOGAF, cloud platform certifications in AWS, Azure or GCP, and AI/data transformation credentials.

Technical and Professional Capabilities:

Strong knowledge of IT strategy, service governance, IT operations, information security, risk management and supplier management.

Good understanding of technical management, information analysis, computer hardware and software systems.

Practical knowledge of ITIL and architectural principles.

Experience with cloud and modern infrastructure, hybrid or multi-cloud environments and global network connectivity architectures.

Understanding of emerging technologies, automation, AI and digital transformation, including how these can be integrated into existing IT environments.

Knowledge of enterprise software and ERP or CRM environments, including SAP S/4HANA, Salesforce or comparable platforms.

Understanding of cybersecurity, data governance, compliance frameworks, zero-trust principles and local data sovereignty requirements.

Ability to support data-driven decision-making through reporting and analytics platforms such as Power BI or Tableau.

Leadership and Personal Competencies:

Strong business perspective with the ability to connect IT initiatives to business performance, operational efficiency and customer value.

Proven people leadership skills, including developing individuals, building teams, resolving conflicts and applying workplace policies.

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical topics clearly to different audiences and build consensus.

Strong accountability, initiative and results orientation, with the ability to drive execution and continuous improvement.

Ability to lead change, foster learning and development, and support digital adoption across diverse business functions.

Strong stakeholder management skills, including working with executive leaders, regional directors, suppliers and cross-functional teams.

Expert Application Advice

When tailoring your application for Scania East Africa, address the senior-level need for AWS by citing a specific past project where you solved a similar challenge. This shows real experience, not just keywords.

Positioning — Your cover letter must answer one question: why YOU for THIS specific role right NOW? Avoid generic templates — one sentence on what you specifically bring beats three generic paragraphs.

Technical leadership — Prepare an example of an architectural decision you made, with constraints (budget, timeline, team) and outcomes. African CTOs look for someone who managed real complexity, not just knows the theory.

  • Never pay any amount of money — for a file, a training, a uniform, or an interview. A real employer never asks the candidate to pay.
  • Never send a photo of your ID card, passport, or banking details before you have physically verified the employer exists.
  • Always meet in a public place, during the day — never an isolated address, a private home, or a location you cannot verify in advance.
  • Tell a relative or friend exactly where you are going, with whom, and at what time — and share your live location if possible.
  • Search the company name online before going: a real business has a trace (website, reviews, other employees, an official address).
  • A salary that is far above the market rate for the position and the city is a red flag — be extra cautious.
