Expérience

The Research, Documentation, and Knowledge Management Internship offers a fixed-term position requiring a commitment of 40 hours per week in Kigali, Rwanda, with a monthly stipend of RWF 150,000. At Water Aid, we believe transformative change begins with access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene for all. As part of our mission-driven team, you will play a pivotal role in advancing these goals by supporting evidence-based advocacy, knowledge dissemination, and organizational learning through innovative documentation and design. This role focuses on enhancing Water Aid Rwanda’s (War) capacity to document program achievements, strengthen knowledge-sharing mechanisms, and maintain a robust knowledge repository. Your responsibilities will include conducting process documentation to inform advocacy efforts, producing high-impact visual and written materials such as learning briefs, policy briefs, annual reports, and case studies, as well as designing infographics, presentations, and digital content to amplify program visibility. You will also assist in organizing, cataloging, and archiving multimedia documentation, packaging research findings into accessible formats, and supporting the dissemination of knowledge products across internal and external platforms. To qualify, candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in Development Studies, Economics, Knowledge Management, WASH Engineering, Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Multimedia Design, Digital Media, or a related field, with a strong academic record and demonstrated interest in research, documentation, or knowledge management. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and digital research tools is essential, while experience in publication design, editing, graphic design, and proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Canva, or equivalent software is advantageous. Applicants should also exhibit a keen eye for layout design, typography, branding, and accessibility standards. Water Aid is an equal-opportunity employer dedicated to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion, and we encourage applications from individuals of all backgrounds. Safeguarding remains our top priority, and all offers are contingent upon satisfactory references and screening checks. If you are passionate about leveraging documentation and design to drive systemic change in WASH access, we invite you to apply by 5:00 PM Rwandan time on August 10, 2026. Interviews will commence the week of August 17, 2026. Submit your application, including a cover letter outlining your motivation for the internship,

Expert Application Advice

When applying to WaterAid, don’t just list your degree—show how you used a relevant skill to solve a past challenge. If the posting asks for Excel, briefly describe one hands-on project where you applied it. This turns your CV from passive to proactive.

Positioning — Your cover letter must answer one question: why YOU for THIS specific role right NOW? Avoid generic templates — one sentence on what you specifically bring beats three generic paragraphs.

First role — Lead with motivation and concrete academic/personal projects. Show thorough research on this organization — curious, well-informed junior candidates consistently outperform more experienced but less engaged profiles.

🎯 Make your application ATS-ready

ATS (Applicant Tracking Systems) are the software recruiters use to automatically filter CVs before any human reads them. Our CV builder is specifically designed to pass these filters — and it takes under 3 minutes.

  • •Never pay any amount of money — for a file, a training, a uniform, or an interview. A real employer never asks the candidate to pay.
  • •Never send a photo of your ID card, passport, or banking details before you have physically verified the employer exists.
  • •Always meet in a public place, during the day — never an isolated address, a private home, or a location you cannot verify in advance.
  • •Tell a relative or friend exactly where you are going, with whom, and at what time — and share your live location if possible.
  • •Search the company name online before going: a real business has a trace (website, reviews, other employees, an official address).
  • •A salary that is far above the market rate for the position and the city is a red flag — be extra cautious.
