Consultant Ophthalmologist

Job Summary
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing comprehensive eye care services, including performing surgeries and managing patients with various eye conditions. The role requires a high level of expertise in ophthalmology. The ideal candidate will combine skilled surgical abilities and clinical acumen with a compassionate approach to patient care. They have a proven track record of successful eye surgeries.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive eye examinations to detect vision problems, eye diseases, and other conditions. Perform cataract surgeries and other eye surgeries with precision and care. Diagnose and treat eye diseases, injuries, and other disorders of the eye. Provide pre- and post-operative care to surgical patients. Educate patients on eye health and preventive measures. Maintain detailed patient records and ensure all documentation is accurate and up-to-date. Participate in community outreach programs to promote eye health awareness. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide holistic patient care.
Formation / Diplômes
Master Degree (MMED or Equivalent) in Ophthalmology. Registration with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC). Minimum 2 years of relevant experience as an ophthalmologist in a clinical setting. Proven experience of performing at least 200 manual cataract surgeries.

Clinical Care & Patient Management
Undertake comprehensive patient consultations to assess skin-related symptoms, review medical histories, and determine diagnostic needs. Diagnose and treat a range of dermatological conditions including eczema, psoriasis, acne, skin cancers, and other complex skin disorders. Develop individualized treatment plans that may include medication management, lifestyle modifications, and referrals for surgical interventions when necessary. Provide long-term management and follow-up care for patients with chronic dermatological conditions. Integrate psycho-social interventions into patient care to address the emotional and psychological aspects associated with skin disorders.
Procedures & Interventions
Perform specialized dermatologic procedures such as skin biopsies, excisions, and cosmetic interventions. Laser treatment is an added advantage. Oversee and conduct minor surgical procedures and cosmetic dermatology services as required. Certificate of Registration and a valid practicing license from the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council. Possession of a Recognition Certificate as a Specialist by the Kenya Medical Practitioners’ and Dentists’ Council.
Work Experience
At least one year of post-specialization experience in a busy dermatology unit. Demonstrated expertise in performing both diagnostic and therapeutic dermatologic procedures. Experience in training and mentoring medical personnel is highly desirable.
