United States International University - Africa (USIU Africa) is an independent, not-for-profit institution located in the Kasarani area, off Thika Road in Nairobi, Kenya. The university serves 6,512 students representing 69 nationalities and offers 24 degree programs from undergraduate to doctoral level.

We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the following positions within the School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences:

Faculty in Pharmaceutical Chemistry/Medicinal Chemistry

Job Type: Full Time Qualification: BA/BSc/HND, MBA/MSc/MA Job Field: Education / Teaching / Training, Pharmaceutical

Job Summary: The successful candidate will report to the Dean, School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. The incumbent will be expected to teach Medicinal Chemistry and related subjects, including Drug Design, Structure-Activity Relationships, Pharmacokinetics, Pharmaceutical Organic Chemistry, and Computational Drug Discovery.

Key Responsibilities:

Teach and assess Pharmaceutical chemistry/Medicinal Chemistry courses to undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD students within the School of Pharmacy and related programs. Deliver laboratory and practical sessions in synthetic medicinal chemistry, drug design, and analytical characterization. Develop and update course materials, laboratory manuals, and digital learning resources. Participate in curriculum development, academic program review, and accreditation processes. Conduct and publish research in medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutical chemistry, drug discovery, or related fields. Secure research funding and engage in collaborative research initiatives. Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate student research projects. Mentor students in academic, professional, and research development. Participate in School and University committees, outreach activities, and professional service. Perform any other duties as assigned by the Dean.

Minimum Educational Qualifications and Professional Experience:

B. Pharmacy, BSc in Pharmacy, or related discipline from a recognized/accredited institution. M. Pharmacy / Master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry or Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a closely related field from a recognized/accredited university. A PhD in Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related discipline will be a distinct advantage. At least three (3) years of university teaching experience in Medicinal Chemistry or related areas. Evidence of research and publications in peer-reviewed journals. Registration with the relevant professional body where applicable (e.g., Pharmacy and Poisons Board). Candidates with a Master’s degree should demonstrate commitment to pursuing a PhD.

Pharmacognosy (Lecturer)

Job Type: Full Time Qualification: BA/BSc/HND, PhD/Fellowship Experience: 3 years Location: Nairobi Job Field: Education / Teaching / Training, Pharmaceutical

Job Summary: The successful candidate will be reporting to the Dean, School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. The incumbent will be expected to teach Pharmacognosy and related subjects, including Medicinal Plant Chemistry, Phytochemistry, Herbal Medicine, and Natural Products Drug Discovery.

Key Responsibilities:

Teach and assess Pharmacognosy courses to undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD students in the Pharmacy school and other health-related programs. Supervise student laboratory sessions in phytochemical screening, extraction, isolation, and characterization of natural products. Develop and update laboratory manuals, course materials, and digital content for pharmacognosy and related subjects. Participate in curriculum development, review, and program accreditation activities. Conduct and publish research in pharmacognosy, ethnopharmacology, or natural products chemistry. Secure research grants and engage in collaborative research projects. Mentor students in academic and research activities. Participate in School and University committees, community engagement, and professional service. Perform any other duties as assigned by the Dean.

Minimum Educational Qualifications and Professional Experience:

A B. Pharmacy, M. Pharmacy in Pharmacognosy, Phytochemistry, Pharmaceutical Chemistry (Natural Products), or a closely related field from a recognized/accredited university. A PhD in Pharmacognosy or Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related discipline, will be a distinct advantage. At least three (3) years of university teaching experience in pharmacognosy or related areas. Evidence of research and publications in peer-reviewed journals. Registration with the relevant professional body (e.g., Pharmacy and Poisons Board). Candidates with a master’s degree must demonstrate an intention to pursue a PhD.
