Job Title: Research & Intelligence Graduate Officer

Location: Remote

Employment Type: Contract

Job Overview

Tongston is looking for a Research & Intelligence Graduate Officer to support the Data team. The role turns rigorous cross-functional research and data into decision-ready intelligence that helps Tongston understand users and buyers, markets, countries, laws and regulations, competitors and comparators, products, partners, technologies, talent sources, funding opportunities, economic conditions, operational implications, risks and opportunities.

Role Purpose

The purpose of this role is to strengthen Tongston’s organisational intelligence by independently framing research questions, finding and validating evidence, analysing implications, and converting findings into practical decisions and team-specific actions. The role helps Tongston answer: What do users, customers, buyers, partners, regulators and other stakeholders want, need, value or object to? What does the evidence say about a market, country, policy, competitor, product, funding opportunity, talent source or emerging issue? What are the risks, opportunities, options, assumptions, gaps and confidence levels? What should management and each relevant team do next, why, by when and with what expected outcome? What intelligence should be monitored, refreshed or escalated as T-World and the wider Tongston ecosystem evolve?

Roles & Responsibilities

THINK (Research Strategy, Intelligence Design & Decision Framing): Translate broad management and team questions into clear research briefs, hypotheses, source plans, data requirements, assumptions, expected outputs, decision points and recommended next steps. Build and maintain a cross-functional research agenda linked to T-World product development, launch readiness, user adoption, market entry, compliance, funding, talent, education content, AI governance and commercial strategy. Define the right country, market, user, buyer, stakeholder, comparator, competitor and platform lenses for each assignment, including what should be treated as fact, assumption, inference, risk, gap or recommendation. Design repeatable research workflows, templates, trackers, source-quality standards, refresh cadences, escalation routes and evidence requirements that other contributors can follow. Anticipate legal, policy, privacy, AI, platform-integrity, reputational, customer, adoption, finance, product and operational implications before they become delivery issues. Define team-specific output formats and recommend what signals should trigger urgent alerts, refreshes or management review.

CREATE (Produce Actionable Research, Evidence Packs & Team Feeds): Conduct rigorous desktop, market, policy, regulatory, economic, user, stakeholder, competitor, comparator, country, funding, talent and product research using credible, relevant and traceable sources. Collect, organise, clean, compare, validate and synthesise information and datasets, resolving conflicts where possible and clearly documenting limitations, confidence levels and evidence gaps. Prepare management-ready research notes, one-page briefs, decision memos, market and country scans, competitor matrices, policy updates, personas, funding scans, economic trackers, issue logs, presentation packs, charts and simple dashboards. Convert findings into clear insights, implications, risks, opportunities, options and recommended next steps for internal decisions and approved stakeholder-facing materials. Maintain source lists, assumptions logs, data logs, licensing notes, sensitivity classifications, issue registers, recommendation trackers, decision logs, update schedules and organised research repositories. Use Excel, Google Sheets, Power BI, Looker Studio, PowerPoint, Google Slides or other approved tools to build usable tables, trackers, charts, dashboards and briefings. Use approved AI tools responsibly to structure research, test thinking, design workflows, draft frameworks and improve productivity while preserving source verification, confidentiality and human judgement.

SELL (Drive Recommendations, Adoption & Organisational Intelligence): Convert research into clear actions showing the issue, evidence, implication, recommendation, owner, priority, timeline, confidence level, dependency and expected outcome. Present findings to management and teams in a concise, persuasive and practical way so that decisions can be made quickly and intelligently. Own or maintain recommendation and decision trackers, following through on whether insights were accepted, deferred, rejected, escalated or converted into product, policy, media, finance, strategy, HRM or operational tasks. Produce weekly or monthly intelligence updates and urgent alerts when material legal, regulatory, reputational, market, funding, customer, product or operational risks and opportunities emerge. Guide fellows, junior contributors, outsourced researchers, academic contributors or AI-assisted workflows by setting briefs, reviewing outputs, checking quality and ensuring that deliverables are useful to the business. Support the design of research-agent and workflow documentation, including purpose, memory/source inputs, skills, prompts, quality checks, refresh cadence, escalation rules and reusable templates. Keep all research files, evidence, source materials and outputs well named, versioned, permissioned and easy to retrieve for future team use. Escalate issues early where data, sources, claims, documents or outputs appear sensitive, unclear, restricted, low quality, contradictory, outdated, biased or not permitted for use. Fulfil additional tasks as required by direct management in support of Data, Research & Economics, T-World and wider Tongston goals.

How This Role Illustratively Feeds Each Team:

LPRGC: Regulatory and country scans, laws and policy summaries, AI/data-protection implications, IP/licensing considerations, risk flags, claim boundaries and governance inputs.

Media / Information: Audience and persona insight, messaging guidance, PR risk flags, channel and event intelligence, content themes, market language and evidence for campaigns and thought leadership.

Administration & Project Management: Workflow research, SOP and template inputs, service-provider requirements, documentation standards, tracker designs and process-improvement recommendations.

Strategy: Market-entry scans, country prioritisation, competitor and partner mapping, adoption intelligence, commercialisation options, strategic risks and management-ready decision briefs.

Human Resource Management: Talent-market research, role and fellowship design inputs, sourcing channels, institutional mapping, screening scenarios, employer-brand intelligence and capability-gap analysis.

Finance: Pricing, costs, revenue models, grants, fundraising, funders and investors, banking/fintech partners, credit/SME finance, economic indicators and finance-related opportunity scans.

Data: Buyer and stakeholder dimensioning, research-backed data-collection design, analytics interpretation, persona refreshes, triangulation, source governance and data-governance artefacts.

AI: AI-governance research, knowledge-source categorisation, AI-agent documentation, moderation and guardrail inputs, bias/hallucination risk notes, model-policy watch and output-validation criteria.

Technology: Feature-requirement evidence, UX and user-journey findings, data-architecture implications, permission/storage considerations, QA and accessibility flags, country constraints and prioritisation inputs.

Education: Course, module, subject and industry research, academic/practitioner mapping, content-validation inputs, learning-outcome evidence, accreditation intelligence and subject-matter research.

Knowledge, Skills & Attitude Requirements

Knowledge: Bachelor’s Degree, Diploma, HND/ND, postgraduate certificate or equivalent practical experience in Economics, Finance, Data/Analytics, Statistics, Business, Public Policy, Political Science, Social Sciences, Research, Development Studies, Law, Media/Communications, Technology Policy or related fields is required. Strong understanding of strategic research, policy and regulatory tracking, market intelligence, competitor/comparator scanning, stakeholder mapping, user research, economic trend monitoring and decision-support writing. Ability to work with approved sources, traceable evidence, structured research documentation, assumptions, gaps, limitations, confidence levels, sensitivity classifications and escalation notes. Working familiarity with themes such as data protection, AI governance, content moderation, digital platforms, platform integrity, security/authentication, education technology, fintech/digital finance, marketplace models, SME finance, product research and commercial strategy is useful but not required. Understanding how research supports legal, policy, risk, governance, compliance, media, administration, project management, strategy, HRM, finance, data, AI, technology and education workstreams is useful but not required. Awareness of responsible data handling, confidentiality, source quality, IP/licensing, platform terms, data sensitivity, internal governance and the risks of overclaiming or using unverified information is useful but not required. Understanding of Tongston’s education, enterprise, media, finance pillars; T-World and entrepreneurial thinking model is an advantage. We encourage you to take some time to go through our website and third party platforms for more information.

Experience Level: At least 12 months of relevant work, consulting, internship, fellowship, project, research, policy, analytics, product, strategy or business-intelligence experience is expected. Stronger candidates will show proof of independently produced research outputs, source logs, analytical tables, management briefs, dashboards, recommendations or cross-functional team feeds. This is however not required.

Technical Skills: Strong research-design and source-evaluation skills, including use of regulatory portals, government databases, policy documents, public datasets, academic sources, market-intelligence sources, professional-body websites, reputable media and approved internal repositories. Strong spreadsheet and reporting skills in Excel and Google Sheets, including data organisation, cleaning, calculations, source trackers, issue logs, recommendation trackers, matrices, charts and simple dashboards. Ability to build clear charts, tables, trackers, dashboards, briefing packs, one-page memos, management slides and stakeholder-ready summaries. Strong writing and synthesis skills, especially the ability to distinguish fact from assumption, signal from noise, evidence from opinion and recommendation from description. Ability to use AI tools responsibly for research structuring, summarisation, workflow design, prompt development and quality checking without replacing judgement, source verification or confidentiality is useful but not required. Familiarity with, or ability to quickly learn, Power BI, Tableau, Looker Studio, basic SQL or structured data-querying concepts where required for extracting, validating or interpreting approved data is useful but not required.

Soft Skills & Attitude: Strategic, analytical and commercially aware problem-solving skills. Strong ownership mindset and ability to work with limited supervision. Clear communication, persuasive writing and confident cross-functional collaboration. Ability to prioritise, execute and deliver with speed, accuracy and attention to detail. Comfortable challenging weak assumptions, low-quality sources and generic recommendations respectfully. Curious, proactive, discreet and committed to continuous learning. Expert Application Advice

Show Tongston Entrepreneurship Group you’ve already tackled les compétences demandées dans l'annonce—even in a small project or university assignment. Use a concrete example: “During my internship, I applied les compétences demandées dans l'annonce to solve X, achieving Y.” This proves you’re ready, not just hopeful.

Positioning — Your cover letter must answer one question: why YOU for THIS specific role right NOW? Avoid generic templates — one sentence on what you specifically bring beats three generic paragraphs.

First role — Lead with motivation and concrete academic/personal projects. Show thorough research on this organization — curious, well-informed junior candidates consistently outperform more experienced but less engaged profiles.

  • Never pay any amount of money — for a file, a training, a uniform, or an interview. A real employer never asks the candidate to pay.
  • Never send a photo of your ID card, passport, or banking details before you have physically verified the employer exists.
  • Always meet in a public place, during the day — never an isolated address, a private home, or a location you cannot verify in advance.
  • Tell a relative or friend exactly where you are going, with whom, and at what time — and share your live location if possible.
  • Search the company name online before going: a real business has a trace (website, reviews, other employees, an official address).
  • A salary that is far above the market rate for the position and the city is a red flag — be extra cautious.
