The organization is currently seeking applications from highly skilled and seasoned professionals to assume the position of Safety Spotter on a Fixed Term Contract (FTC) basis. Project Twazabuka The ideal candidate will provide support for SHERI initiatives across all relevant functions and will report directly to the SHERI Manager. Key Responsibilities Maintain a log of any hazardous behaviors or environmental risks observed while conducting daily inspections of the work areas, and promptly notify both project management and the SHERI team. Perform routine health and safety assessments, including Daily Safety Inspections (DSI) and near miss reporting initiatives, to proactively identify and reduce potential workplace hazards. Lead the implementation and oversight of Planned Task Observations (Pros) and Critical Control Verification (CCV) programs across 9 Critical Life Saving (CLS) Rules, driving improvements in operational discipline and accountability. Evaluate and verify Contractors’ Safety Files to confirm adherence to all specified criteria, including method statements, risk assessments, safe work procedures, and project-specific HSE programs. Implement ongoing enhancements by spearheading accident prevention programs and safety campaigns grounded in behavioral science. To ensure all employees, stakeholders, and contractors are fully informed, the role involves clearly conveying their individual responsibilities and roles in upholding the commitments outlined in Zambia Sugar’s SHERI policy. Deliver HSE training, conduct toolbox talks, and lead behavioral-based safety awareness sessions to enhance the overall safety culture among the workforce. Review and implement the ABF Integrated Risk Management System (ARMS) in alignment with Group Level Guidelines (GLG) to ensure operational effectiveness at the site level. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with others through constructive dialogue and logical problem-solving techniques. Capable of adapting to varied schedules and addressing urgent situations promptly. Promote and uphold ABCs policies, including SHERI, Food Safety, Competition Law, and Anti-Bribery & Corruption (ABC) standards. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE Earned a high school diploma or its equivalent at the Grade 12 level. A diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or an equivalent qualification is required. Candidates holding a degree in Occupational Health and Safety or an equivalent credential from a recognized institution will be given preference. A BOSH Construction Certificate would be considered an additional advantage. Affiliated with the Zambia Occupational Health and Safety Association (OHSA), the Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ), or the Engineering Institution of Zambia (LIZ). A minimum of two years of safety experience within the agribusiness, manufacturing, construction, or mining sectors is required. Demonstrates strong business judgment in project management, with the capacity to proactively identify and analyze shifts that influence health and safety initiatives and methodologies. Revised: Experience with HSE systems is required, with a preference for familiarity with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management systems. Qualifications are authenticated by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZARA).
