Job Overview
The 5G Network Deployment Engineer will lead the planning, design, and implementation of Airtel Rwanda’s 5G infrastructure in the Rulindo district and surrounding regions. This role involves close collaboration with cross‑functional teams, vendors, and regulatory bodies to ensure seamless rollout, optimal performance, and compliance with national standards. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of high‑speed connectivity, supporting Rwanda’s vision for a smart, connected society.
Key Responsibilities
Develop detailed 5G network design plans, including site selection, radio frequency (RF) engineering, and capacity forecasting. Coordinate with civil works, power, and backhaul teams to ensure timely site acquisition and construction. Lead integration and testing of 5G radio units, antennas, and core network elements. Perform drive‑test measurements, optimize network parameters, and troubleshoot performance issues. Collaborate with vendors such as Ericsson, Nokia, and Huawei to manage equipment delivery, installation, and warranty support. Ensure compliance with Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Authority (RURA) guidelines and health‑safety standards. Document deployment processes, generate technical reports, and provide knowledge transfer to operations teams. Support the development of future 5G use‑case pilots, including IoT, smart agriculture, and e‑health solutions.
Required Skills
Strong expertise in LTE/5G RF planning tools (e.g., Atoll, Planet, iBwave). Proficiency in network performance analysis, KPI monitoring, and optimization techniques. Hands‑on experience with 5G NR (New Radio) equipment, antenna systems, and backhaul technologies. Excellent project management abilities, with a track record of delivering large‑scale infrastructure projects on schedule. Effective communication skills for stakeholder engagement, vendor negotiation, and cross‑team collaboration. Ability to work in remote field locations and adapt to challenging environmental conditions.
Education
A bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. Advanced certifications such as Certified RF Engineer (CRFE) or vendor‑specific 5G training are highly desirable.
Experience
Applicants must have a minimum of five years of experience in telecom network engineering, with at least two years dedicated to 5G deployment projects. Prior experience in Rwanda or East Africa is advantageous, as is familiarity with local regulatory frameworks.
Salary
The position offers a competitive salary range of SSP 800,000 to 1,200,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based incentives and annual bonuses are part of the total compensation package.
