Job description: Overall Job Purpose This position will support the Principal Hydrogeologist in executing hydrogeological projects while maintaining rigorous standards for data collection, site supervision, and comprehensive field coverage. The role necessitates strong hydrogeological expertise to contribute insights and assist in the development, evaluation, and execution of groundwater system-related initiatives. Specific Job Responsibility Leverage expertise in basic geological principles to analyze how various rock types and geological structures influence the presence and flow dynamics of groundwater. Analyze maps, geographical data, historical evidence, and models to develop a comprehensive conceptual model of the groundwater system. Groundwater flow modelling and the maintenance of these models are essential responsibilities for this position. The role involves developing, refining, and updating numerical models to simulate subsurface water movement accurately. Additionally, it requires ensuring the integrity, performance, and reliability of existing groundwater flow models through regular validation and calibration. Conduct on-site investigations and monitoring activities to gather essential data and insights. Design and commission boreholes Collect and analyze samples of both groundwater and surface water, ensuring accurate measurement and assessment of water quality parameters. Collaborate closely with the principal hydrogeologist, field technicians, and other relevant professionals to ensure seamless project execution and knowledge sharing. Professional Rewriting: The position requires the ability to draft reports that are accessible to individuals without a technical background. Conducting and overseeing test-pumping initiatives to assess system performance and ensure operational efficiency. Provide technical guidance and resolve inquiries from stakeholders regarding technical matters. Ensure strict adherence to established health and safety protocols and regulations throughout all operational processes. Experience & Qualifications Minimum three to five years of hands-on experience within a comparable professional capacity is required. Proficiency in conducting mine water balance calculations is required. Accomplished professionals with expertise in stormwater control management are preferred for this role. Professional Experience: Proven expertise in designing, implementing, and managing extensive mine dewatering systems. Experience in depressurization systems Seasoned in overseeing drilling and test pumping initiatives with practical expertise. Grade Twelve Certificate Earned a Bachelor’s degree in Hydrogeology, Geology, or a comparable field from an accredited university or institution. Professional Affiliate of the Engineering Institute of Zambia (LIZ) As a prerequisite for this position, the candidate must hold Zambian citizenship. Holders of a valid driver’s license, specifically with a manual transmission, are required for this position. Job Specific Competencies Proficiency using GIS software Professional Exposure to air-percussion and diamond drilling techniques is required. Seasoned professional with a proven track record in managing drilling operations and supervising contractor performance. Demonstrates a comprehensive grasp of geological mechanisms and their interplay with groundwater systems.
