Job description: Overall Job Purpose To support the Principal Hydrogeologist in executing hydrogeological initiatives while upholding rigorous standards for data collection, site oversight, and comprehensive coverage. This position demands essential hydrogeological expertise to contribute insights and assist in the formulation, evaluation, and execution of groundwater system-related activities. Specific Job Responsibility Leverage foundational geology expertise to analyze how various rock types and geological structures influence groundwater presence and its subsequent flow patterns. Analyze maps, geographical data, historical evidence, and models to develop a comprehensive conceptual model of the groundwater system. Groundwater flow modeling and ongoing model maintenance are essential responsibilities within this role. These duties involve developing, calibrating, and updating numerical models to accurately simulate subsurface water movement. Additionally, the position requires performing regular assessments to ensure model reliability, integrating new data, and applying best practices in hydrogeological analysis. Strong technical expertise in groundwater modeling software and a solid foundation in hydrogeology are critical requirements for success in this position. Conduct on-site investigations and perform monitoring activities as part of assigned fieldwork initiatives. Design and commission boreholes Collect and analyze samples of groundwater and surface water, then measure their respective properties and compositions. Collaborate effectively with the principal hydrogeologist, technical staff, and other relevant professionals in the field. The position involves creating reports that are accessible and comprehensible to individuals without a technical background. Develop and oversee test-pumping programs to evaluate system performance and ensure operational efficiency. Provide expert guidance and resolve technical inquiries to support stakeholders effectively. Adhere to rigorous health and safety protocols and regulatory standards. Experience & Qualifications Minimum of three to five years of professional experience within a comparable position is required. Capable of performing mine water balance calculations with proficiency. Seasoned professionals with a background in stormwater control management are encouraged to apply, as this role demands hands-on experience in overseeing and implementing effective stormwater management systems. Professional Experience in Designing and Implementing Large-Scale Mine Dewatering Systems Experience in depressurization systems Accomplished professionals with a proven track record in overseeing drilling operations and test pumping initiatives are encouraged to apply. Grade Twelve Certificate Earned a Bachelor’s degree in Hydrogeology, Geology, or a closely aligned field from an accredited university or academic institution. Professional Rewriting: Registered as a professional member with the Engineering Institute of Zambia (LIZ), the incumbent holds demonstrated affiliation with this esteemed professional body. Zambian citizenship is a mandatory prerequisite for this position. Possession of a valid driver’s license, specifically with a manual transmission, is required. Job Specific Competencies Proficiency using GIS software Professional Exposure to air-percussion and diamond drilling techniques is required. Proven track record in managing drilling operations and contractor oversight is essential. Possesses a comprehensive grasp of geological mechanisms and their intricate relationship with groundwater systems.
