Job description: Overall Job Purpose The position involves supporting the Principal Hydrogeologist in executing hydrogeological initiatives while maintaining rigorous standards for data collection, site oversight, and comprehensive field coverage. This role demands foundational hydrogeological expertise to contribute insights and facilitate the development, evaluation, and execution of groundwater-related projects and assessments. Specific Job Responsibility Leverage expertise in foundational geology to assess how variations in rock formations and geological structures influence the presence and flow dynamics of groundwater systems. Analyze maps, geographical data, historical evidence, and models to develop a comprehensive conceptual framework of the groundwater system. Groundwater flow modelling is conducted along with the ongoing maintenance of these models. Conduct on-site investigations and monitoring activities as part of the fieldwork responsibilities. Design and commission boreholes Conduct sampling and measurement of both groundwater and surface water. Collaborate closely with the principal hydrogeologist, field technicians, and interdisciplinary specialists to ensure cohesive project execution and seamless communication among all stakeholders. Report writing that is accessible to non-technical audiences Conducting and overseeing test-pumping initiatives to evaluate system performance and ensure operational efficiency. Provide expert technical guidance and resolve inquiries from stakeholders by delivering precise advice and solutions. Adhere to rigorous health and safety protocols diligently. Experience & Qualifications Professional Rewriting: Minimum of three to five years of hands-on experience in a comparable professional capacity is required. Proficiency in conducting mine water balance calculations is required. Proficiency in stormwater control management is required for this position. Seasoned professionals with a track record in implementing and managing expansive mine dewatering infrastructures are sought after. Candidates should demonstrate hands-on experience with substantial-scale mine dewatering systems. Experience in depressurization systems Proficiency in overseeing drilling operations and conducting test pumping initiatives is required. Grade Twelve Certificate Revised: A Bachelor’s degree in Hydrogeology, Geology, or a closely related field from an accredited university or academic institution is required. Professional Affiliation with the Engineering Institute of Zambia (LIZ) As a prerequisite, the applicant must hold Zambian citizenship. Holding a valid driver’s license with a manual transmission endorsement is required. Job Specific Competencies Proficiency using GIS software Work involves interaction with air-percussion and diamond drilling techniques. Seasoned in managing drilling operations as well as contractor performance. A strong grasp of geological processes and their relevance to groundwater systems is essential. Key Job Attributes Must be highly detail-oriented A strong emphasis on meticulous attention to detail is essential for both routine assignments and complex problem-solving scenarios. Willingness to collaborate effectively with colleagues from diverse professional and cultural backgrounds is essential.
