As the Country Director, you will be responsible for overseeing all operations within the designated country, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives while driving strategic growth. Water Mission is seeking a dedicated Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) Engineer to design, implement, and oversee sustainable water and sanitation systems in underserved communities. The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, or Water Resources Engineering, along with at least five years of relevant experience in WASH program development, project management, and technical implementation. Strong proficiency in community engagement, stakeholder collaboration, and cross-cultural communication is essential, as is the ability to develop and adapt engineering solutions to meet diverse local needs. Responsibilities include conducting water resource assessments, designing infrastructure (e.g., boreholes, piped systems, and treatment facilities), managing project budgets and timelines, and ensuring compliance with international WASH standards. Jinja, located in Uganda, serves as an administrative hub for the surrounding region. Positioned along the northern shores of Lake Victoria, it stands as Uganda’s second-largest city by population. Based in Jinja, Uganda, this position involves regular travel to regions served by Water Mission’s Uganda program, such as West Nile, as well as to the United States and to various Water Mission training sessions and events across East Africa. Overseeing and executing a comprehensive range of operational tasks, this role entails ensuring the efficient management of daily functions to meet organizational objectives. Key responsibilities include coordinating team efforts, monitoring workflows, and maintaining high standards of productivity and accuracy. Additionally, the position involves addressing any operational challenges that may arise, implementing corrective measures as needed, and fostering an environment of continuous improvement. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask effectively are essential for success in this role. Demonstrate servant leadership in every facet of program leadership, ensuring alignment with Water Mission’s mission, vision, values—love, excellence, and integrity—and established standards. Demonstrate an unwavering Christian testimony before colleagues, vendors, donors, beneficiaries, volunteers, and collaborating organizations. Maintain transparent and professional communication with both Ugandan staff members and Water Mission leadership. Monitor and present updates on the operational performance of country programs, ensuring alignment with the approved ministry tactical plan and budget. Maintain Water Mission’s established quality benchmarks across all project activities. Ensure the precision and currency of Water Mission project management and enterprise accounting systems by maintaining alignment with operational and project activities. Oversee employee relations matters, including the implementation of biblical discipline and performance enhancement initiatives, while ensuring personnel management practices align with Water Mission standards.

• Assess employees’ current knowledge, skill, and ability levels to pinpoint areas needing improvement, then design and implement targeted training initiatives to enhance overall performance. Proactively collaborate with governmental bodies across all levels and other entities within the WASH sector to further our mission and vision, while also assessing individuals and organizations for potential partnerships in ministry. Play a key role in shaping the Uganda program strategy and its advancement. Responsibilities include directing the development of detailed budgets, assessing program opportunities, and producing accurate cost estimates through thorough analysis and planning. Regularly deliver comprehensive country program updates to Regional staff and Water Mission Headquarters, covering administrative, financial, and programmatic developments as well as emerging needs. Prepare and deliver presentations for Water Mission staff, the Uganda Program Board of Directors, partners, volunteers, and donors as required.
• Nurture and sustain a high-caliber workforce comprised of passionate, mission-aligned individuals. Other responsibilities may include tasks and assignments deemed necessary by the employer to ensure the successful execution of operational objectives. Seeking a qualified candidate with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, or a related field, along with a minimum of five years of progressive experience in financial analysis, budgeting, or accounting. Proficiency in advanced Excel and ERP systems is essential, as are strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
