ASSOCIATE FIELD SECURITY COORDINATION OFFICER, Bamako, Mali Organization: Department of Safety and Security Country: Mali City: Bamako Office: Department of Safety and Security in Bamako Grade: P-2 Organizational Setting and Reporting The Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) is responsible for providing leadership, operational support and oversight of the United Nations security management system (UNSMS) globally. The post is located in Bamako, Mali, and this duty station has been designated by the International Civil Services Commission as a "D" hardship and non-family duty station. PURSUANT TO SECTION 10.1(B) OF ST/AI/2025/2 ON THE "STAFF SELECTION SYSTEM," ONLY A CANDIDATE ENDORSED BY THE CENTRAL REVIEW BODY, APPROVED FOR SELECTION BY THE HEAD OF ENTITY, AND WHO ASSUMES THE POSITION WILL BE INCLUDED IN THE ROSTER. Responsibilities Within delegated authority, the Associate Field Security Coordination Officer will be responsible for the following duties: Prepares a draft security plan and security management documents for assigned elements of the mission, designated county or geographic area, including assigned aspects related to elaboration, development, implementation and updating of the documents. Monitors activities related to the implementation of the approved security measures. Participates in maintaining and enhancing lines of communication with United Nations Security Management System (UNSMS) entities, including agencies funds and programmes and security focal points. Assists with implementation and evaluation of the preparedness and compliance of the security measures as decided by the United Nations Security Management Team. Conducts security surveys and assessments. Supports the implementation of safety and security policies of the UNSMS. Participates in maintaining cooperation and enhancing collaborations with authorities and international institutions, supports security briefings, advice and security training to UNSMS personnel and operational partners of the United Nations (such as entities under Saving Life Together framework). Prepares draft reports on security-related incidents involving UN staff members project personnel or eligible dependents. Provides support to UNSMS organizations in the establishment and maintenance of a functioning Emergency Communication System. Assists Senior Security Officers in establishing policies and procedures for reviewing crisis situations and preparing contingency plans for emergencies. Liaises with local authorities and international institutions, provides security briefings of limited scope. Assists with providing security training to UNSMS personnel and operational partners of the United Nations (such as entities under Saving Life Together framework). Assists Senior Security Officer in responding to crisis events and security incidents. . Performs other duties as assigned. Competencies Professionalism: Knowledge of security management combined with background in security or emergency or disaster operations. Ability to make quick decisions in emergencies or when rapid response is required. Ability to communicate complex concepts orally. Ability to produce assessments, reports, and other papers on security issues; Ability to draft reports and papers on technical issues and contribute to review and edit the work of others. Ability to apply UN rules, regulations, policies and guidelines in work situations.
