Position: Chair of Department - Arts and Humanities (International Relations / Media Studies / Hospitality Studies)

Purpose of the Position: We are seeking a strategic academic leader who is forward-looking, industry-connected, student-centered, and entrepreneurial to foster innovation and research. The ideal candidate has a demonstrable ability to bridge academia and industry, and can leverage sector insights to create and implement market-responsive curricula. This person is an administrative expert with excellent leadership skills and the ability to adapt to a dynamic, entrepreneurial, and collaborative work environment.
Responsibilities: Reporting to the Dean of the School of Education, Arts, and Social Sciences, the position holder will be responsible for:
Overseeing curriculum development and revision, ensuring relevance to industry needs for high graduate employability.
Managing student admissions, reception, and orientation.
Maintaining quality standards by supervising all teaching and examination processes within the department.
Resolving student and staff concerns in a timely manner.
Managing human resources, including performance, attendance, leave, and discipline, among others.
Establishing and maintaining high-value collaborative partnerships and networks with industry, academia, and research.
Driving research and innovation.
Designing and executing the department's growth strategy.
Any other tasks that may be assigned.
Qualifications and Experience:
PhD, Master's, and Bachelor's degrees specialized in one of the following fields: Hospitality Studies, International Relations, Media Studies, Communication Studies, or any related field, from an accredited university.
At least three years of teaching experience at the university level and at least one year of proven management and administration experience.
Have published and participated in academic conferences, seminars, and workshops.
Be visionary with the agility to lead the School to remain relevant in a rapidly evolving industry landscape.
Demonstrable skills as a strategic leader bridging academia and industry, with a focus on sustainable growth and market-driven educational value.
Be up-to-date with industry standards and have established notable connections with the industry.
Strong commitment to the sustainability of the School.
Membership in a relevant professional body.

Responsabilités

Missions principales
Processing students' admissions, receiving and orienting them. Maintenance of quality standards by overseeing all teaching and examination processes in the department. Timely resolutions of students and staff concerns. People management, including performance, work attendance, leave, and discipline management, among others. Establishing and maintaining high-value industry, academia, and research partnerships and collaborative networks. Spearheading Research and Innovation. Designing and executing the departmental growth strategy. Any other duties that may be assigned. Qualification and experience PhD, Master's and Bachelor degree specialising in any of these areas: Hospitality Studies, International Relations, Media Studies, Communication Studies or any area related to the mentioned specialisations from an accredited university. At least three years of teaching experience at the university level and at least a years proven management and administrative experience. Has published and attended and/or contributed in academic conferences, seminars, and workshops. A visionary with the agility to lead the School to stay relevant in the rapidly changing industry landscapes. Demonstrable skills as a strategic leader who bridges academia and industry, focusing on sustainable growth and market-driven educational value. Is up-to-date with industry standards and has established noteworthy linkages with the industry. Has firm commitment to the sustainability of their school. Membership to a relevant professional body.
