Depuis 1996, IRC-RDC répond aux besoins humanitaires et de développement des populations congolaises et réfugiées en RDC, tout en s’efforçant de promouvoir leurs droits et de renforcer leur santé, leur sécurité, leur bien-être économique, leur éducation et leur pouvoir décisionnel. Actuellement, IRC intervient dans les domaines de la santé (y compris sexuelle et reproductive), de la nutrition, de l’eau, l’hygiène et l’assainissement (WASH), de la protection de l’enfance et des femmes, de la bonne gouvernance et de la gestion des conflits, de l’éducation et enfin, du redressement économique et du développement.
