BACKGROUND: The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world ' s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. At work in over 40 countries and 28 U S cities to restore safety, dignity, and hope, the IRC leads the way from harm to Domestically, our 28 offices across the U S ensure new arrivals have food, shelter, and clothing and work with refugees to help them gain self-sufficiency.
SCOPE OF INTERN WORK: This internship is an excellent opportunity for a current graduate/undergraduate student to gain exposure to the operations of a large international organization while practicing and applying Grant Management methods to maximize the reach of IRC programming in Atlanta GA. Please note that all internship positions are unpaid.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work closely with the Grants Coordinator to review IRC Atlanta’s donor prospecting strategy.
G row a database for opportunities identifie d and conduct ongoing research related to the pre-award grant opportunities .
Update grants calendar regularly.
Attend grants webinars and information sessions.
Draft grant proposal for Grant Coordinator or Development Director review.
Provide support as needed in other areas of identified projects.
Submit intern hours on volunteer dashboard.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
Student will gain experience in grant management, which is a crucial skill to move up in the non-profit sector.
Student will learn more about the pre-award process for building a funding portfolio in a non-profit.
Student will learn the basics of proposal development and play a key role in ensuring proactive responses to business development needs.
Student will develop an in-depth understanding of IRC Resettlement, Asylum, & Integration programming.
Student will gain experience drafting and writing grants of aligned projects.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Currently enrolled graduate student or undergraduate student in a related field of International Relations/Development, Social Work, G lobal H uman resources , L earning and D evelopment; N on- P rofit M anagement , I nternational B usiness , or other relevant field s .
Comfort with research, organizing content, and liaising with staff .
Strong writing skills .
Excellent organizational skills, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to collaborate .
Ability to use basic functions of Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office programs
English fluency is required .
REQUIREMENTS:
Must submit intern hours on volunteer portal.
Must pass a background check.
Commitment of 15 hours per week for a minimum of 3 consecutive months.
Must be at least 18 years old.
Must be authorized to work in the United States. Please note that we are unable to provide sponsorship for a US work authorization .
The is an in-person position. This position will report to the Pre-Award Grants Coordinator.
The internship will be filled on a rolling basis. We will continue to accept applications until April 10 th , 2026, or until the position is filled, whichever occurs first. Internship will begin the week of May 11 th , 2026 .
