GENDER AFFAIRS OFFICER

The Gender Affairs Officer will report to the Senior Gender Adviser, Chief of the Gender Affairs Section. Responsibilities

Responsabilités

Within delegated authority, the Gender Affairs Officer will be responsible for performing the following duties:

  • Supports the implementation of UN Security Council Resolutions on Women, Peace and Security and the DPO Policy on Gender in Peacekeeping Operations [Click the Apply button below to see the contact details] .
  • Supports the process of implementing the Mission’s Gender Action Plan and strategy to mainstream gender considerations into the work of each mission component, and technically supports the Mission’s Gender Focal Points across pillars and components to deliver on the Mission's gender mandate.

Formation / Diplômes

  • Supports knowledge management and data collection with regard to gender policy and facilitates the collection and exchange of information between partners and the Gender Affairs Section.
  • Supports the Gender Affairs Section in providing timely and close guidance –including through regular field visits to the Field Offices for a practical gender mainstreaming in their planning and rolling-out of field activities
  • Supports the implementation of the Mission Leadership Team (MLT) decisions on the Gender markers in the Mission through coaching to components, sections and offices in crafting gender analysis, defining and updating the gender sensitive indicators and reporting with sex-disaggregated data.
  • Advises and guides Mission components so that all proposals for QIPs (Quick Impact Projects) and CVR (Community Violence Reduction) are gender responsive.
  • Drafts, collates and edits specified results-based inputs for all gender related reports and documentation as required.
  • Coordinates, as needed, with other UN agencies, Funds and Programmes that have complementary mandates on gender related issues through participating in working-level mechanisms, as well as coordinates with relevant institutions.
  • Supports the provision of technical expertise to relevant partners and Mission components on the roll-out of gender markers strategies for gender mainstreaming, including expanding the capacity for gender analysis and designing gender-sensitive policies and programmes.
  • Supports the results-based budgeting (RBB) process and provides substantive inputs to results based reporting and analysis
  • Supports the delivery of gender training to uniformed and civilian Mission personnel and conduct orientation activities on gender markers in the mission.
  • Facilitates dialogue between the Mission's leadership and the civil society organizations, including women's groups, on gender issues.
  • Performs other duties as required. Competencies

PROFESSIONALISM: Recognized expertise on gender equality and women’s empowerment; track record on advising peers, senior management and uniformed personnel. Strong conceptual and strategic analytical capacity and experience in the development and use of gender markers. Ability to analyze and evaluate critical matters pertaining to organizational gender responsiveness. Solid familiarity with monitoring gender deliverables, preferably in the field of peace and security. Ability to extract lessons learned and prepare good practices for broad use. Shows pride in work and in achievements; demonstrates professional competence and mastery of subject matter; is conscientious and efficient in meeting commitments, observing deadlines and achieving results; is motivated by professional rather than personal concerns; shows persistence when faced with difficult problems or challenges; remains calm in stressful situations. Expérience

An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent degree) in gender studies, law, international relations, social studies, or in a related area is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Work Experience A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in the field of international relations, law, gender and/or peacekeeping issues at policy and operational levels.
