Programme Coordinator - South Sudan, Sudan and Somalia

Organization: Legal Action Worldwide (LAW)

Location: Nairobi, Kenya (with travel to the regions)

Duration: 12 months, full-time (renewable subject to funding)

Salary: KES 3,660,000 - KES 3,780,000 per year (based on experience) plus benefits

About LAW: Legal Action Worldwide is an independent non-profit association of human rights lawyers and jurists. We provide survivor-centered, gender-competent, and trauma-informed support to victims of human rights violations and international crimes. Our team works in conflict-affected contexts, combining national and international expertise to build capacity, strengthen justice institutions, and promote accountability.

About the Programmes: In South Sudan, Sudan, and Somalia, LAW represents survivors of human rights violations, including gender-based violence, in groundbreaking cases. We work with national partners on domestic and international litigation, survivor-centered transitional justice, and gender equality through legal aid and legislation.

Role Overview: The Programme Coordinator will work closely with Programme Managers and partners to support capacity building, training, and implementation of evidence-based interventions across the three country programmes. The role requires a gender-sensitive and trauma-informed approach.

Key Responsibilities:

Programmatic:

  • Support and coordinate project teams to ensure high-quality programming, including awareness and advocacy with a gender-sensitive and trauma-informed approach.

  • Engage with national, humanitarian, and other stakeholders to advance programme goals and protection delivery, especially for GBV survivors.

  • Support capacity building and training of LAW’s network of civil society organizations and identify innovative learning opportunities.

  • Conduct participatory research and surveys for evidence-based programming.

  • Support the Programme Manager with MEL activities and use of M&E tools.

  • Contribute to narrative reporting and liaise with partners for timely reporting.

  • Organize regular strategy and coordination meetings internally and with partners.

  • Compile and analyze global indicators for monthly reporting.

  • Provide operational support in compliance with LAW policies, including planning, financial monitoring, M&E, and safeguarding.Communications:

  • Maintain communication with partners, track and review their work, and recommend improvements for coordination and joint activities.

  • Participate in coordination group meetings and workshops to identify avenues for knowledge-sharing and coordination, especially on GBV prevention.Fundraising:

  • Draft concept notes to expand LAW’s programmes in the region.

  • Support review, evaluation, and production of impact reports, and drafting donor reports.

  • Perform any other duties as specified by the Programme Manager or Senior Management Team.Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in law, human rights, international law, or related field.

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience, with a focus on international criminal law, international human rights law, or refugee law.

  • At least 4 years of experience managing projects and programmes in the humanitarian and development sector, including project planning and implementation.

  • Essential experience working with vulnerable individuals, including victims and survivors of gender-based violence.

  • Proven track record of working with national civil society organizations in fragile or restricted civic space contexts.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in implementing protection interventions, conducting interviews with at-risk communities, and gender programming is preferred.

  • Experience establishing and maintaining effective partnerships with international NGOs or government institutions is desirable.

  • Demonstrated experience managing programme expenditures, overseeing compliance procedures, or undertaking logistical and security duties.

  • Strong ability to manage a variable workload, maintain attention to detail, and meet tight deadlines.

  • Fluency in English and Arabic is highly desirable.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and strong technical literacy.
