  • You accept our Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy Job Description Vacancy Announcement Job Title: Tailor Work Location: Koidu Government Hospital (Kono District) Department: Operations Report to: Senior Hygiene Officer Requisition Number: 4741 Line Management No. Position Overview The Tailor supports the hospital’s laundry operations by repairing, altering, and maintaining uniforms, linens, and fabric-based hospital items. The role ensures all garments and textile materials are safe, functional, and presentable for patient care and staff use. Duties include sewing repairs, size adjustments, stitching labels, and assisting with inventory of linen and uniforms. The Tailor works closely with the laundry team to ensure timely turnaround and high-quality workmanship. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Repair and Alter Hospital Textiles: Mend tears, replace zippers, buttons, and fasteners, and perform alterations on uniforms, linens, drapes, and fabric hospital items. Maintain Uniform Appearance: Ensure staff uniforms meet hospital standards for fit, cleanliness, and professional presentation. Labeling and Identification: Stitch or attach name tags, department labels, and size identifiers on garments and linen items. Support Laundry Operations: Work closely with laundry staff to ensure repaired and altered items are returned promptly and in good condition. Equipment Operation: Safely operate sewing machines, overlock machines, irons, and other tailoring tools; report any malfunction. Quality Control: Inspect linens and garments for damage prior to repair and ensure finished work meets hospital quality and safety standards. Inventory Assistance: Monitor supplies such as threads, needles, fabrics, and garment accessories; notify supervisor when stock needs replenishment. Recordkeeping: Maintain simple logs of repairs, alterations completed, and materials used. Compliance: Follow all hospital infection prevention and control (IPC) guidelines, safety procedures, and confidentiality requirements. Education and Work Experience Requirements: Education and Experience Education: Completion of basic secondary education (High School or equivalent). Formal training or certificate in tailoring, garment construction, or related vocational skills is an added advantage. Experience: Minimum of 1–2 years’ experience in tailoring, garment repair, or alterations. Experience working in an institutional setting such as a hospital, hotel, or laundry service is preferred. Familiarity with sewing machines, overlock machines, and industrial ironing equipment is desirable Skills and Competencies Technical Skills Proficient in hand sewing and operating sewing machines, overlock machines, and pressing/ironing equipment. Ability to perform garment alterations, repairs, and fabric adjustments with accuracy. Basic knowledge of textile types and appropriate repair techniques. Ability to follow garment patterns, measurement guides, and repair instructions. Quality & Safety Competencies Strong attention to detail to ensure high-quality stitching and finishing. Ability to inspect garments and linens for defects or wear. Understanding of hospital Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) procedures related to laundry and textiles. Safe handling of needles, sharp tools, and equipment. Organizational Skills Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple repair requests efficiently. Good recordkeeping skills for tracking repairs, alterations, and material usage. Time management skills to ensure timely turnaround of items. Interpersonal & Workplace Competencies Good communication skills when working with laundry staff and hospital departments. Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively within a team environment. Professional attitude, reliability, and respect for confidentiality.
