DRC Uganda is currently looking for highly qualified and motivated individuals to join our dynamic team as Protection Assistants-Child Protection (02)
The overall purpose of the role:
The Child Protection Case Worker will be responsible for providing safe, confidential, and child-centered case management services to unaccompanied and Separated children including those at risk of abuse, neglect, exploitation and violence, He/she will ensure children and caregivers receive appropriate support and referrals in line with child safeguarding principles, and Best Interest Procedures (BIP).
Your main duties and responsibilities will be:
Project implementation, Coordination and reporting.
Responsible for developing/strengthening relationships with Child Protection case management actors at the field level in close cooperation with the Child Protection Officer and the Protection Team Leader
Provide case management services for vulnerable children at risk. These will include cases of abuse, exploitation, neglect and violence, especially Unaccompanied and Separated Children (UASC) and other children at risk
Conduct assessments basically BIDs and BIAs for vulnerable children.
To conduct alternative care placements for the UACs and assess their needs
Identify potential caregivers' e.g. foster families for placement of Unaccompanied and Separated Children (UASC) using stipulated procedures throughout the project lifespan.
Conduct home visits to foster care homes and assess needs, ascertain the living conditions of the Unaccompanied and Separated Children (UASC) and provide ongoing support to familes, foster and alternative care systems.
Ensure timely documentation of case files and updating of cases in ProGres V4 and Child Protection case trackers.
Responsible for representing DRC in any relevant field-based Child Protection case management meetings with case management actors.
Participate in case conferences, Case supervision sessions, and inter-agency coordination meetings.
Maintain and strengthen existing networks through other service providers at the settlement level, to ensure that children receive quality services and support both at the agency levels.
Actively participate in scheduled meetings such as Child Protection inter-agency Coordination meetings.
Work closely with the other Protection prevention team to ensure ongoing needs of children are met in prevention-related activities.
Proactively contribute to quality and timely drafting of weekly, monthly reports,
Support and guide Para Social Workers in drafting and sharing their activity reports
Identify, document and disseminate relevant project success, challenges and follow up on implementation of project's action points.
Assist in participatory needs/vulnerability and capacity assessments of affected communities
Staff development and management
Provide ongoing mentorship for Para Social Workers and other DRC community-based structures in the settlement on CP case management procedures.
Uphold DRC's code of conduct and principles of accountability.
Logistics / finance.
Plan and coordinate proactively logistics and movement to the field.
Follow all DRC procedures for security, Finance, Logistics, HR and Administration.
On request, perform any other duties assigned by the supervisors to allow the organization to function optimally.
About you
To be successful in this role, you must have a minimum of two (2) years' experience working with children and vulnerable communities, and protection programming experience, and/or child protection advocacy programs. Moreover, we also expect the following.
Required
Bachelor's Degree in Social Sciences, Community Development, Guidance and Counseling or any related field.
Experience in child protection case management, Unaccompanied and Separated Children (UASC) programming, or CFS activities.
Experience working in humanitarian or refugee contexts.
Professional training in Best Interest Procedure processes, Child Protection case management, and CP community-based protection.
Knowledge of the usage of ProGres V4 CP module.
Basic computer skills (MS Word, Excel).
Experience in protection interventions in line with Refugees operation with wide Child Protection.
Basic knowledge in disaster risk mitigation and anticipatory approaches.
Experience of working with UN or Non‐Governmental organizations.
Ability to ride a motorcycle with Valid riding permit is a requirement.
Desirable
Knowledge of the local languages spoken by South Sudanese and Congolese refugee communities.
