Job Description

Duty Station: Aveyime-Battor, North Tongu District, Volta Region

Starting: June 2026

Contract duration: 6 months, with the possibility of extension up to a maximum of 26 months in total

Referee: VIS GHANA Project Manager - ROOTS Action

Context and Project Description

VIS has been active in Ghana since 2015, mainly in the areas of vocational training, migration, organic farming, and education. The priority objective of VIS in Ghana is to respond to the needs of the most vulnerable segment of the population, focusing mainly on youth and providing vocational training and job placement services. Regarding the main geographical areas of intervention in the country, the NGO's commitment is highlighted: in Accra (Greater Accra Region) and in the Bono, Bono East, Western, Northern regions.

Within the project “Strengthening agri-food ecosystems in Ghana in partnership with the Italian private sector” (hereinafter AREA Africa Ghana), the specific objective is to develop and strengthen agri-food value chains, agricultural and civil infrastructure, as well as the capacities of institutions and local communities in Ghana. CIHEAM Bari is the implementing agency and is responsible for socio-community actions in the rural area of Aveyime-Battor, in the North Tongu District, Volta Region.

Within this framework, the action titled “ROOTS – Opportunities to strengthen local agri-food value chains, agroecology, and school farming in the Volta Region, Ghana” was proposed by VIS and selected by CIHEAM Bari following a public call for expressions of interest.

The action aims to strengthen local agri-food systems by promoting sustainable value chains, improving educational and agricultural infrastructure, and enhancing the capacities of institutions and communities. Through an integrated approach targeting schools, agri-food MSMEs, and value chain actors, the project supports socio-economic development by combining practical education (e.g. school farming and school feeding), infrastructure improvements, and inclusive capacity-building initiatives. It also fosters the growth and market integration of agri-food enterprises - particularly those led by women and youth - while reinforcing the sustainability and resilience of key value chains through participatory and agro-ecological approaches. Overall, the initiative contributes to improved food security, climate resilience, and inclusive rural development.

Expert Application Advice

Degree requirement — VIS Ghana specifies a bachelor degree: if yours is from a related field, compensate with highly targeted field experience proving your competence in the exact domain.

Positioning — Your cover letter must answer one question: why YOU for THIS specific role right NOW? Avoid generic templates — one sentence on what you specifically bring beats three generic paragraphs.

Field experience — Detail species cultivated/raised, areas managed, yields achieved and techniques mastered. For NGO/rural development roles, cite your FAO/IFAD projects if applicable.
