Senior Fixed Plant Maintenance Technician SENIOR FIXED PLANT MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN JOB DESCRIPTION Position/Job Title: Senior Fixed Plant Maintenance Technician Job Grade: Department: Mineral Processing – Group Reports To: Group Metallurgy Manager Job Brief: The Senior Fixed Plant Maintenance  Technicianis responsible for leading and managing all maintenance activities forthe fixed processing plant across all mining operations to ensure safe, reliable and cost-effective operation. The requires a complete focus on safety and the development and mentoring of a local workforce coming from a limited skills background.  The role focuses on maximizing the equipment availability, improving asset life, controlling maintenance costs and driving continuous improvement in maintenance systems practices. Responsibilities: The Senior Fixed Plant Maintenance  Technician has the following responsibilities and duties: Key Responsibilities Maintenance Strategy & Planning Develop and implement preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance strategies for fixed plant equipment. Establish long-term asset management plans aligned with production and business objectives. Ensure effective shutdown, turnaround, and major maintenance planning and execution. Plant Reliability & Performance Maximize plant availability and reliability by reducing unplanned downtime. Lead root cause failure analysis (RCFA) and implement corrective and preventive actions. Monitor maintenance KPIs such as MTBF, MTTR, availability, and maintenance cost per ton. Team Leadership & Development Lead, coach, and develop maintenance supervisors, planners, engineers, and trades personnel. Ensure appropriate staffing levels and skills mix for mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation teams. Promote a strong safety culture and accountability within the maintenance team. Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) Ensure all maintenance activities comply with site safety standards, legal requirements, and best practices. Lead hazard identification, risk assessments, and safe work procedures (LOTO, permits, isolation). Drive zero-harm culture and continuous improvement in safety performance. Budget & Cost Control Prepare and manage the maintenance budget, including labor, spares, contractors, and shutdown costs. Control maintenance expenditure while maintaining plant reliability and asset integrity. Optimize spare parts inventory and critical spares strategy. Systems & Continuous Improvement Ensure effective use of the CMMS (e.g., SAP, Pronto, Maximo) for work management and reporting. Drive reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) and continuous improvement initiatives. Standardize maintenance procedures, job plans, and documentation. Contractor & Stakeholder Management Manage maintenance contractors and service providers to ensure safe, quality, and cost-effective delivery. Collaborate closely with Operations, Projects, Metallurgy, and Supply Chain teams. Provide technical input into plant upgrades, modifications, and capital projects. Key Equipment Exposure (Typical Fixed Plant) Crushers (jaw, cone, impact) Screens, conveyors, feeders Pumps, cyclones, thickeners Spirals, Jigs, shaking tables, Multi gravity separator. Power distribution, MCCs, instrumentation and control systems (SCADA) Qualifications & Experience Degree or Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent work experience in a similar setting on similar equipment). 8–12+ years maintenance experience in fixed plant / mineral processing / heavy industry. 3–5+ years in a maintenance leadership or management role. Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation maintenance. Experience with CMMS and maintenance KPI reporting. Strong experience working in developing mining jurisdictions and working on aging equipment – must have a can do approach. Strong experience working within the constraints of a parts restricted environment and a demonstration of managing Central African logistics.
