AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited, Obuasi Gold Mine is currently near completion of the redevelopment phase to become a modern, efficient and long-term profitable operation. The underground mining operation has been fully mechanized and designed to produce up to an average maximum of 5,000 t/day of ore mined.

We are seeking an experienced and self-motivated person to join our dedicated team as per the details below:

POSITION: Technician, Mechanical – Lifting & Ancillary

DEPARTMENT: Engineering

LOCATION: Obuasi Mine

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Permanent

OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE

  • The Mechanical Technician – Lifting & Ancillary reports to the Workshop Supervisor – Lifting and Ancillary.

The role is accountable for executing planned and ad hoc maintenance, servicing, and repair work on lifting equipment and ancillaries in a safe and compliant manner, as instructed and tasked.

  • All work must be executed in accordance with detailed task instructions and in compliance with Government of Ghana regulations and AngloGold Ashanti Ghana (AGAG) safety and environmental requirements.

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

Safety

  • Work according to Total Quality Management principles and ensure zero defect objectives and safety.

  • Apply HSE regulations with zero tolerance to breaches.

  • Demonstrate safety behaviour consistent with AGAG vision and values.

  • Continuously seek opportunities to improve design and field safety performance.

  • Accept personal responsibility for own health and safety and that of all persons affected by work.

Environment

  • Adhere to the site Environmental Management Plan.

  • Comply with AGAG environmental management systems and all legal requirements.

  • Take action to prevent environmental pollution.

  • Follow operating procedures and environmental rules relevant to the assigned job.

  • Correct or report observed environmental deviations and make suggestions to improve environmental management.

  • Follow established procedures for incident reporting.

People

  • Attend required training, development, and performance improvement programmes.

Work Execution

  • Execute preventive and ad hoc maintenance, servicing, and repair work on lifting equipment and ancillaries in accordance with Government of Ghana and AGAG regulations.

  • Conduct daily pre-start checks of tools and equipment when required and report anomalies to the Supervisor.

  • Assess equipment and tools required for task completion, prepare checklists, and transport all required tools.

  • Identify equipment anomalies that indicate maintenance requirements and report and escalate to the Supervisor.

  • Provide data and information to support Maintenance Planner activities and close out work orders in SAP upon completion.

Cost

  • Minimize wasteful use of resources as far as practicable.

Time

  • Execute work in a timely manner.

Risk Management

  • Operate all equipment within the safe working envelope.

Reporting

  • Report and escalate issues directly to the Supervisor.

Authority

  • Stop equipment operation where a high risk or unsafe condition exists and report to the Supervisor.

Maintenance Systems

  • Comply with the maintenance management system and standard operating procedures.

Plans, Procedures, Standards, and Documentation

  • Execute tasks according to approved plans, procedures, and prescribed standards.

  • Ensure all work orders are appropriately documented and signed off.

Compliance

  • Comply with all applicable laws and regulations, including environmental requirements and scheduled maintenance compliance.

Meetings and Communication

  • Attend daily safety meetings and all other meetings as prescribed by the Supervisor.

Performance Management

  • Participate in mid-year and annual performance appraisal sessions.

Audit and Controls

  • Be available for audits and assessments related to lifting equipment and ancillaries, where required.

Continuous Improvement

  • Attend scheduled training and career development programmes.

Quality Management

  • Ensure quality workmanship by following approved maintenance procedures.

  • Perform adequate inspection and testing prior to handing over completed work.

Change Management

  • Comply with approved change management actions and agreed implementation requirements.

Qualification Required & Experience

  • Secondary / Technical education level.

  • Certificate of successful completion of a recognized auto-mechanical trade apprenticeship (e.g. City & Guilds).

  • National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI) Grade 1.

  • Valid driving and/or operating license.

Experience

  • Minimum of three (3) years post-apprenticeship experience in an Auto Electrician trade.

  • Familiarity with Ghana Minerals and Mining (Health, Safety and Technical) Regulations.

  • Experience working in an underground environment is an advantage.

Legal Requirement

  • Valid Mincom Certificate.

Competencies

Technical Competencies

  • Fully literate and numerate.

  • Fully competent in mechanical trade.

  • Knowledge of crane safe operation.
