Job Purpose: To oversee the organization’s credit granting process, manage the loan portfolio, minimize bad debt, and ensure healthy cash flow while supporting business growth and maintaining compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.   Responsibilities Loan Portfolio Management & Growth

• Maintain portfolio quality within institutional targets.

• Achieve monthly and quarterly loan disbursement targets.

• Manage portfolio diversification across lending methodologies.

• Optimize the mix to balance risk exposure with outreach and profitability.

Credit Methodology & Policy Implementation

• Enforce adherence to lending methodologies
• Define and manage loan approval authority limits within the credit hierarchy.
• Ensure loan pricing and interest rates align with risk profiles and institutional cost of funds.

Field-Based Credit Analysis & Underwriting

• Supervise loan officers in conducting the 5Cs of Credit (Character, Capacity, Capital, Collateral, Conditions) adapted for informal sector clients.

• Review and approve loan applications within delegated authority.

• Conduct spot checks on client appraisals to ensure quality and accuracy.

• Assess client cash flow and repayment capacity in the absence of formal financial statements.

Collections, Delinquency Management & Recovery

• Implement strict protocols for early delinquency (e.g., 1-day overdue follow-up, field visits by 7 days overdue).

• Oversee the write-off process, ensuring compliance with policy and accounting standards.

• Coordinate with recovery officers or external agencies for post-write-off recovery efforts.

• Manage collateral liquidation where applicable, ensuring legal compliance and maximum recovery.

Team Leadership & Capacity Building

• Supervise, mentor, and evaluate loan officers and credit staff.

• Monitor staff productivity.

• Conduct training on: Cash flow analysis and credit assessment, Client interaction and ethics, Prevention of over-indebtedness

• Implement fraud prevention measures.

Risk Management, Compliance & Internal Controls

• Collateral Management: Ensure proper custody, valuation, documentation, and insurance of all collateral.

• KYC & AML: Ensure compliance with Know Your Customer and Anti-Money Laundering regulations.

• Audit Coordination: Serve as the primary liaison during internal and external audits; justify provisioning levels and explain delinquency trends.

• Enforce adherence to credit policies and escalate exceptions appropriately.
