Project Buyer (Motor Industry) – Port Elizabeth

We are currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Project Buyer to join a dynamic team within the Motor Industry in Port Elizabeth. This is a critical role for a confidential client who values strategic procurement and supply chain excellence. As a Project Buyer, you will be at the heart of the company's project lifecycle, ensuring that all materials, components, and services are sourced efficiently, cost-effectively, and in line with stringent quality standards.

In this position, you will not only manage the procurement process for new and ongoing projects but also contribute to the overall success of the business by identifying cost-saving opportunities and mitigating supply chain risks. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of the automotive sector, including its specific regulations, supplier networks, and production demands. Your expertise will directly impact project timelines, profitability, and the company's competitive edge.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the complete procurement cycle for assigned projects, from initial request for quotation (RFQ) to final delivery and supplier performance evaluation.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with a diverse network of local and international suppliers within the motor industry.
• Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms to achieve the best possible total cost of ownership (TCO) while ensuring quality and delivery targets are met.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including Engineering, Quality, and Production to align procurement strategies with project milestones.
• Conduct market analysis to identify new suppliers, technologies, and cost-reduction opportunities.
• Monitor supplier performance and implement corrective actions when necessary to ensure continuity of supply.
• Manage and update procurement documentation, including supplier contracts, purchase orders, and project reports.

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum 3-5 years of experience as a Buyer or Project Buyer within the Motor Industry or a related manufacturing sector.
• Proven track record in strategic sourcing, supplier negotiation, and project management.
• Strong knowledge of procurement processes, supply chain management, and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle).
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• A relevant tertiary qualification in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or Engineering is highly advantageous.
• Must be based in or willing to relocate to Port Elizabeth.
