Description de l'offre
The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) is a treaty-based international, inter-governmental organization dedicated to supporting and promoting strong, inclusive and sustainable economic growth in developing countries and emerging economies. To learn more please visit about GGGI web page.
The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) internship program provides a unique learning opportunity for students and recent graduates from diverse academic backgrounds. The program is designed for talented and motivated individuals skilled in areas relevant to GGGI’s operations. The program allows selected candidates to gain insight into the work of the Institute and provides assistance and training in various professional fields in a multicultural environment. We encourage qualified young professionals with diverse academic and cultural backgrounds to apply.
Background
The GGGI supports developing countries in achieving inclusive green growth, including through the design and implementation of climate mitigation policies aligned with the Paris Agreement.
Under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, cooperative approaches and market-based mechanisms create opportunities to mobilize climate finance while ensuring environmental integrity, transparency, and sustainable development benefits. GGGI actively supports, promotes, and operationalizes best practices under Article 6 and contributes to the development of an equal and fair playing field in international carbon markets.
GGGI serves as trustee of the Norwegian-assisted Climate Action (NACA) Fund on behalf of the Norwegian Ministry of Climate and Environment (NMCE). The NACA Fund aims to support the development of mitigation activities and to purchase Internationally Transferred Mitigation Outcomes (ITMOs) generated from such activities, in line with Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.
Current Opportunity
GGGI Senegal is seeking a motivated intern to support analytical, coordination, and knowledge-management work related to Article 6 implementation, carbon market instruments, and NACA Fund–supported activities.
Under the supervision of the NACA Fund Program Lead for Senegal and in close coordination with the GGGI Senegal and HQ teams, the intern will support activities including, but not limited to:
Supporting coordination with internal and external stakeholders, including meeting scheduling, agenda preparation, minute taking, and follow-up actions;
Assisting with document management, version control, and archiving of technical and programmatic materials;
Contributing to communication and promotional materials for NACA Fund–related activities in Senegal and partner countries;
Supporting analytical and desk-based research on Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, including cooperative approaches, ITMOs, and the Article 6.4 mechanism;
Supporting development of knowledge products, briefing notes, presentations, and summaries related to international carbon markets, Article 6 rules, and emerging PACM requirements;
Monitoring and summarizing relevant updates from the UNFCCC, Gold Standard, and other carbon market institutions;
The intern will work in a diverse, international, and professional environment and will benefit from mentorship, exposure to real-world carbon market operations, and day-to-day collaboration with GGGI technical teams.
Eligibility
Applicants to the GGGI Internship Program must meet one of the following criteria:
Be enrolled in the final year of a Bachelor’s degree, or in a Master’s or PhD program, prior to internship commencement; or be a recent graduate (within the last 12 months) in a field relevant to GGGI’s work.
Academic background or strong interest in climate change mitigation, carbon markets, environmental policy, economics, or sustainable development;
Demonstrated enthusiasm for developing practical and long-lasting solutions to climate change challenges.
Excellent command of English (working proficiency required).
Qualification
Educational background in sustainability, environmental economics, environmental engineering, public policy, climate finance, or environmental law;
Solid understanding of the global climate regime, including the Paris Agreement and emerging Article 6 rules;
Interest or prior exposure (academic or professional) to carbon markets, mitigation activities, or crediting mechanisms;
