Job Vacancy For Country Director

Amnesty International (AI) is a global movement of people who campaign for internationally recognized human rights. Amnesty International Ghana is one of the section offices of AI worldwide and has been contributing to achieve the global goals and objectives of AI by taking part in its campaigns and local human rights initiatives.

Amnesty International Ghana is seeking a dynamic and experienced individual for the post of Country Director to lead and manage the next phase of the organization’s development. The post is based in Accra.

The primary focus of this role (in collaboration with the national Board) is to ensure the effectiveness and impact of Amnesty International in Ghana by:

  • expanding the human rights work and strengthening programmatic impact.

  • Growing membership, activism and public engagement.

  • Enhancing the organization’s public profile and advocacy strategies.

  • building strong relations with the local human rights movement and civil society.

  • Representing AI Ghana in national and international forums.

  • Consolidating organizational systems and performance.

  • Strengthening fundraising capacity of AI Ghana.

The role is a fixed-term three-year contract, renewable based on performance. A six-month probation period applies.

Qualification Required & Experience

Requirements:

  • Extensive senior-level experience in the human rights field, including leadership of staff and budget management.

  • Understanding of national and sub regional human rights and political dynamics and trends and ability to propose innovative solutions to human rights challenges.

  • A proven track record of personal leadership, influence and impact, working with diverse teams both locally and remotely.

  • Experience representing an organization to the media, government institutions, and international stakeholders.

  • Ability and experience developing high quality funding proposals and implementing projects having restricted funding.

  • Ability to closely work with the locally elected board, reporting to the Chair of the board.

  • An advanced degree on human rights or related field is an added advantage.

The role will involve extensive in-country travel and a fair amount of international travel.
