Human Rights intern OHCHR - Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights Yaoundé Both national and international Internship level Speaks English, French Application deadline: April 01, 2026 Closed Apply Summary by Impactpool The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights is seeking a Human Rights intern to assist in monitoring human rights developments in the Central Africa region. The intern will support the preparation of reports, maintain information tools, and assist in organizing workshops. The role requires independent work and familiarity with human rights mechanisms. Fluency in English or French is essential. Candidate Requirements: Enrolled in or completed a graduate program Enrolled in or completed a Bachelor's degree Fluency in English or French Knowledge of the other language is desirable Work Location Cameroon Expected duration 13.04-12.07.2026 Duties and Responsibilities The ideal candidate would be able to work independently to assist in monitoring developments (human rights, politics, and conflict) in the region, in specific: - Assist with follow-up on human rights issues and cases in line with provisions of the treaty body mechanisms and special procedures. - Assist in preparing a monthly review to give an overview of the human rights situation in the assigned region for inclusion in the office's monthly report. - Assist in overseeing maintenance and further development of the office's information and resource tools and, where necessary, directly update and produce the information and resource tools. - Contribute to the preparation of internal and external reports on the work of the Central Africa Regional Office. - Attend and take notes in meetings and conferences as requested by the supervising Human Rights Officer. - Assist the supervising Human Rights Officer in organizing workshops and activities related to the work of the office. - Familiarize herself/himself with human rights mechanisms, conventions and Human Rights Council procedures. - Carry out political and legal analysis of certain topics related to the Central Africa Regional Office. (e.g.: statelessness, migrant domestic workers, etc.). Qualifications/special skills a) Be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent or higher such as Master’s degree or equivalent, Ph.D. or postgraduate degree); b) Be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent). Languages Fluency in English or French is required; knowledge of the other is desirable. Additional Information Not available.
