Communication and Multimedia, Nairobi, Kenya Organization: UNEP - United Nations Environment Programme Country: Kenya City: Nairobi Office: UNEP Nairobi, Kenya Work Location Nairobi Expected duration 6 months Duties and Responsibilities The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. This internship is hosted by UNEP’s Ecosystems Division in the Regional Seas Branch (RSB). The Ecosystems Division works with international and national partners, providing technical assistance and capacity development for the implementation of environmental policy, and strengthening the environmental management capacity of developing countries and countries with economies in transition. The overall objective of the UNEP's Ecosystems Division is to support countries in conserving, restoring and sustainably managing their terrestrial, freshwater, and marine ecosystems, the biodiversity they contain and the products and services they provide for human well-being and prosperity. Focusing on tackling climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution across marine, coastal and aquatic ecosystems, the Regional Seas Branch coordinates the Regional Seas Programme (RSP), covering 18 Regional Seas Conventions and Action Plans (Regional Seas). These frameworks address the accelerating degradation of the world’s oceans and coastal areas, while linking regional efforts with global processes including the Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF), the Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ), and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Under the direct supervision of the Head of the Regional Seas Branch (or designated supervisor), the Intern will support the planning, research, production, and dissemination of communication and multimedia materials across the Regional Seas Programme. The role will contribute to strengthening visibility, knowledge sharing, and storytelling across the 18 Regional Seas Conventions and Action Plans (Regional Seas). Responsibilities The intern will work with the RSB and support the overall technical and coordination needs related to the implementation of the Branch’s projects and programmes, as well as assist in coordinating activities across the 18 Regional Seas.
