Our client is a large independent grocery retail business in the Namaqualand Region and is looking for an experienced General Manager to lead a high-volume, multi-department food retail operation. This is a hands-on role for someone with strong grocery retail experience who understands store operations, people leadership, stock control, fresh departments, shrinkage, wastage, margins, customer service and trading performance. The successful candidate must be practical, visible on the floor, commercially aware and comfortable working closely with ownership. Due to the confidential nature of the appointment, the exact store and town will only be shared with shortlisted candidates.

Responsabilités

Manage the full daily operation of a large grocery retail store Lead and manage department heads, supervisors and store staff Drive store standards, availability, merchandising and customer service Manage stock control, shrinkage, wastage and stock rotation Oversee fresh departments and ensure high standards are maintained Monitor sales, margins, expenses and overall store performance Ensure strong controls around receiving, cash, admin and stock movement Resolve customer complaints professionally and quickly Ensure compliance with food safety, health and safety, and store procedures Work closely with ownership to improve store performance

Solid experience in grocery retail Experience in a large food retail or supermarket environment Strong understanding of stock control, shrinkage, wastage, margins and fresh departments The ideal candidate will come from a large independent, owner-managed, franchise-style or regional grocery retail environment. This role requires someone who can lead from the floor, understand the numbers, manage people properly and keep a large food retail operation trading smoothly every day.
