The World Food Programme (WFP) is seeking an intern for the Multilateral Engagement Team in Geneva. The intern will support WFP's objectives related to humanitarian policy and governance discussions, enhance Member State engagement, and outreach to potential private sector partners. This role offers an opportunity to work in a diverse and inclusive environment while contributing to global humanitarian efforts. The internship lasts for six months with the possibility of extension.

Candidate Requirements:

Bachelor's or Master's student from a recognized university

Completed at least two years of study or graduated within the last 6 months

Excellent written and spoken English

Working knowledge of another UN language is an asset

Previous exposure to multilateral or NGO policy development is an asset

Experience in communications preparation is an asset

Basic understanding of government strategies

Ability to develop narratives using data analysis visualization

The Geneva Global Office ensures the representation and positioning of WFP within multilateral and Member State dialogues, with the objective of ensuring support and attention to Ending Hunger, including through WFP operations. Bolstered by technical experts outposted from Headquarters, the office engages in key dialogues related to Humanitarian Diplomacy, Emergency Preparedness and Response, Cluster, Global Health and Supply chain processes. The intern will help in the achievement of the objectives set for 2026, including: Support in analysis for WFP positioning on humanitarian policy and governance discussions Increase Member State engagement, including sharing of information and updates related to WFP operations Outreach to prospective Private Sector partners in Switzerland for an initial scoping, in coordination with PSP

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Track Member State positions through key dialogues and thematic issues, of relevance to WFP Support the work of the Humanitarian Diplomacy Service Support engagement of potential partners within the Geneve International context Other activities, as requested by the Director

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Be a Bachelor’s student (and have completed at least two years), or a Master’s student from a recognized university and have attended classes in the last 12 months; OR Have completed University within 6 months prior to the application to the internship position, and have attended classes in the last 12 months. Excellent written and spoken English is required (proficiency/level C). Working knowledge of another official UN language (French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Russian plus Portuguese) is an asset. Previous exposure to multilateral, national government, or NGO policy development would be an asset; Previous international education and/or work experience would be an asset. Previous experience in Brief and/or communications preparation would be an asset. Has a basic understanding of government strategies. Has developed powerful narratives by using data analysis visualization to enable action-oriented discussions with partners. Has motivated team spirit and contributed to a gender-balanced, inclusive and sound working environment.

TRAINING COMPONENTS

Throughout their assignment WFP interns have access to an industry leading learning platform, WeLearn. Depending on opportunities and availability of funds, he/she may participate in WFP workshops or seminars, as appropriate.

LEARNING ELEMENTS

Throughout the duration, the intern will support engagement with partners in counterpart organizations and with Member States in Geneva. In coordination with the various technical leads, map and build entry points for engagement with partners, including recommended positions. Opportunities to advocate for WFP operations, and to contribute to progress discussions related to food security, should be identified. Increased communication with – and briefings for - member states and multilateral partners will be supported. The intern will develop proven experience in partner and stakeholder mapping, engagement, analysis and position development, and briefing and communication preparation.

INTERNSHIP TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Interns receive a monthly stipend from WFP up to the maximum amount of US$1,000 per month depending on the duty station of assignment. WFP is not responsible for living expenses, arrangements for accommodation, VISA requests and related costs. WFP will reimburse travel ticket for candidates who are nationals of developing countries and are pursuing their studies in their home country. WFP will recognize candidates’ educational credentials from recognised institutions that have been certified by competent international or national authorities such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) or Ministries of Education. Sons, daughters, brothers, or sisters of current WFP employees are not eligible to apply.
